Smithing a MiniLeague
Have an idea for an LL MiniLeague, for which you would like to write the questions?

|
First of all, contact the Commissioner with your idea. A good MiniLeague topic is one that is more specific than a regular LL category (or spans across numerous categories united by a common theme), and of a broad enough interest to attract a decent number of players (the minimum is twelve). The quality of the questions is important -- each MiniLeague is a representative of LearnedLeague. Please submit six sample questions with your submission. Strive for clarity, wit, eloquence, concision, and intellectual challenge while avoiding ambiguity, awkwardness, and undue obscurity.

If your proposal is accepted by the Commissioner, it will be placed on the schedule for the next MiniLeague opening (keep in mind that this will likely be many months in the future, giving you plenty of time to smith).

Once the MiniLeague has been scheduled, you can begin writing the questions. Please submit the questions to the Commissioner at least two weeks prior to the MiniLeague's first day. There are 72 questions in a MiniLeague (12 matches x 6 questions/match); you may want to include a couple of extras in case any are thrown out for any reason -- the Commissioner edits only lightly and does not select ML questions, except to exclude anything offensive or anything that may have already appeared in a previous LL contest. You might also wish to enhance the difficulty of the questions on the last Match Day, in case a playoff is required, though this is not strictly necessary.

MiniLeague questions should be submitted in an Excel spreadsheet according to a template which the Commissioner will provide. The template contains detailed information; alert the Commissioner in advance if you have any questions. If you provide the questions via a method other than the template or another method agreed upon beforehand, they will be returned to you and you will be asked to transfer them to the template. There are no categories within MiniLeagues, so there is no need to include any with the questions. The 72 questions should be listed in the order in which you would like them to be used, with any extras appended at the end.

If any questions require images or audio files, make a note in the appropriate field of the spreadsheet, and include the files in an email to the Commissioner. Images should be .gif, .jpg, or .png. All audio files should be .mp3. Include the files separately; i.e., do not embed the files in another document.

Once you have submitted the questions, sit back and wait for the season to arrive. During the MiniLeague season, you as the smith are the judge in instances where answer accuracy is questioned. You will be notified by the Commissioner if your input is required.
